About
Born in the Netherlands but of Indian Tamil descent, Maharani is the owner of the cultural initiative 'Sanskriti', founder of the South Asian collective 'Cinnamon & Spice', and an upcoming multilingual singer-songwriter. The London-based singer is primarily an RnB/Trap-Soul singer with a unique style that reflects the variety of cultures she grew up in. Her style, inspired by the likes of Jhené Aiko, Taylor Swift, Hayley Williams and the Weeknd contains strong elements of her Carnatic music training.
Working independently with her partner, East London producer Itsyaboikay, the duo have been featured in MTV News' Bop Shop for their song 'Tere Bina', the second song on Maharani’s South Asian inspired EP ‘AnBae’. 'AnBae' was released in 2020, containing tracks with a smooth multilingual blend of English, Tamil, Hindi and Dutch. Her singles have been featured numerous times on BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing London and Radio Mirchi in India. Maharani was also invited as Artist of the Week on Bobby Friction’s show and featured on Ashanti Omkar's show. Maharani and Itsyaboikay’s extraordinary style is one not to be missed.
